About PostcodeDB
An independent geographic data directory.
PostcodeDB is a free, independent directory that makes Australian postal, geographic and demographic information easy to find and understand. For every postcode, suburb, city and state we bring together official data into a single, clear page — boundaries, the suburbs a postcode contains, population, age, income, household statistics and nearby areas.
Where the data comes from
We use official Australian open data only:
- Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) — statistical boundaries (ASGS Edition 3) and the 2021 Census.
- Geoscape G-NAF — the Geocoded National Address File, for the postcode–suburb–state relationships and locations.
Full licensing details are on our data & attribution page. We deliberately avoid unofficial or scraped sources so the information stays trustworthy.
Coverage
We currently cover Australia, with around 2,640 street-delivery postcodes and more than 15,000 suburbs. We plan to expand to other countries over time, starting with those where people search using the term "postcode".
Accuracy
We work hard to be accurate, but data can be approximate or out of date — please read our Terms of Use and always verify important details with the authoritative source. PostcodeDB is not affiliated with Australia Post, the ABS or Geoscape.
